How are similar articles determined?

Clicking on “See similar articles” from a mention in your saved search results will show you all online mentions identified as similar to the mention you are viewing, helping you track how a story's reach has been boosted across multiple outlets.

Medianet’s algorithm automatically detects and groups online mentions that contain a repetition of words. For online mentions to be deemed similar, they need to meet the following criteria:

  • 90% similarity or repetition of the words in the headline OR a 70% similarity or repetition of the words in the body.
  • Be published within the past 7 days.

This feature allows users to see mentions with similar themes or even identical content that has been published across different online outlets.

The “See similar articles” feature is only visible for mentions that have similar mentions detected. If a mention does not have associated similar mentions, the feature will not be shown.

The “Group similar mentions” feature can also be used when creating Mention Reports.
