At Medianet, we are committed to providing you with the best resources and tools to support your PR and media-related activities. As part of our ongoing efforts to enhance your experience, we have transitioned to the Media Topics set by The International Press Telecommunications Council (IPTC), the global standards body of the news media.
The Media Topics are a set of controlled vocabulary for subjects with clear definitions established by the IPTC. This framework provides a consistent and standardised way of categorising and organising news and media content, ensuring uniformity and efficiency across platforms that adopt the standard.
IPTC’s vocabularies are used by the world’s largest news agencies, such as Agence France-Presse, Associated Press and Reuters. By adopting these international standards, Medianet is now aligned with industry best practices, promoting accuracy and consistency in media content classification.
This change also facilitates potential integrations with other media platforms and organisations that use the same standards.
As a result of this change, some of our subjects have been updated, refined, consolidated or retired to match the Media Topics standards.
These changes apply within Medianet’s Contacts Database when searching for media contacts and outlets by subject. Many subjects will be exactly the same, some will have slightly different names and others have been consolidated into a broader category.
